We're Here to Help

The Shepherd's Inn provides young women in a crisis pregnancy a non-denominational Christian home in which they will receive professional help, loving support, housing, and education.

Who We Can Help

  • Pregnant women 18 or older -- note that we do offer referral assistance to younger women

  • We do not discriminate on the basis of race, age, marital status, education level, economic status, political affiliation or religious beliefs
  • We do not discriminate on the basis of the circumstances of the pregnancy

  • We are here to help women from Idaho, the Greater Yellowstone area, or indeed anywhere in the U.S. Most women will want to remain fairly near their own home, but we understand that some situations make a distant retreat a welcome option.

What We Offer

    Referrals and Non-resident Support
We are happy to talk with women or concerned parties (friends, family, birth fathers, etc.) who don't know whether they need or desire a residential program. We can provide referrals to many pregnancy centers and other support programs throughout the country.

    Our Residential Program
We've been blessed by tremendous community support, which allows us provide help to our residents:

    • room and board in our beautiful historic home
    • individualized counseling for each resident
    • counseling for the birth father and family are available as needed
    • support for both adoption and parenting options (education before the choice, specialized counseling through birth and transition)
    • connection to education and skill building resources
    • referrals to medical care and social support services

We do not provide medical services directly, so there can be medical costs. But our staff will help each resident access state and federal aid programs for mothers and children.

Where We Offer Help

Our facility is a carefully restored 8000 square foot, turn-of-the century arts-and-craft style home in a quiet community. It is an amazing old gem, but with new bathrooms. The Inn can house several women at one time, but the atmosphere is not at all institutional. Our 24 hour staffing -- led by kind and caring Houseparents -- assures a safe, comfortable, and supportive home environment, respectful of privacy.

The home is in a small farm community near Idaho Falls. The region rests in the Snake River Plain west of the Tetons, in the Intermountain West.

Our region is highly educated and family oriented. It is a gateway to Yellowstone, the Tetons, and the many wild splendors of Idaho. There are three universities and a well respected technical college within an hour of the Inn. The Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center is a large, modern hospital well-equipped for a service area of approximately 275,000 people.

When We Can Help

We can help you today as you seek information.

Our residential program can serve women from the time their pregnancy is confirmed, through birth, and for a short period of transition (whether parenting or adoption is chosen).

Our staff and counselors have helped pregnant women for many years. The Inn has been providing residential care since early 1999.

How We Help

We have an intake screening process for residents which protects the developing baby and the other residents of the Inn.

We are not judgmental, but need to know that a prospective resident is:

    • committed to prenatal medical care
    • committed to remaining drug, alcohol, and tobacco free while resident (for the health of baby, self, and other residents)
    • personally interested in our help, not forced or persuaded by other people
    • willing to participate in the Home atmosphere, agreeing to abide by the rules and regulations which assure health, safety, and mutual respect

We use some standard educational materials and counseling protocols, but believe in the importance of each resident's participation in planning, organization, and evaluation of services provided to them.

It is the Shepherd's Inn's objective that all women leaving the Inn will take with them a basic understanding of child development, positive discipline, and a preparedness to care for their child's well being if they choose to parent. It is our goal that each woman have a clear understanding of her options regarding her babies future, and that she will get the support she needs regardless of her decision. Each resident will be continually, individually assessed by the counselors and Houseparents to track their progress in obtaining this knowledge and understanding.

We protect the privacy of mother and baby alike.

Why We Want to Help

We are a non-denominational group of Christians who want to defuse crises for mother and child. Our staff, Board, and volunteers have diverse backgrounds, but we all agree that people can overcome remarkable challenges when offered skilled, dependable support. Between us we've dealt with many of the challenges life can throw at folks.

We believe you will make it through to a bright future if you apply yourself, God's grace, and the help of those who want to see you succeed.

Our own lives are enriched through the knowledge of the great things a group can accomplish when hearts, mind, muscles, and faith are combined. It is a privilege for us to apply faith through service to those in need. It is a great honor and blessing for us to get to know heroic young women who work through difficult times seeking the best for their baby and themselves.
